I saw this on the internet and i wanted to give it a try . I was searching for making your own gel/creameyeliner and i found this recipe . But for an eyeliner ?????? I think it will be messy around your eyes after a few minutes . How can Vaseline sets ? Even when you add primer to it , i don't think it will dry on your eyes .
But it might work as a cream eyeshadow base . Although i have a lot creamshadows and you find some of very good quality and affordable ones on the net ( like the
Darling girl ones for example !! ) , i wanted to try it (just for fun :D ). Sometimes you need a colorbase and you don't have it at that moment , than it's a quick way to make your own with this recipe ! So let's put it to the test :D
What you need for this easypeasy recipe :
- A color pigment/loose eyeshadow / crushed eyeshadow of your choice ( i used Aromaleigh Pulsar from Astronomical collection )
- Vaseline
- Eyeprimer
- A mixingbowl/plate or whatever you have
- A spoon or something else to mix with or a toothpic
- An empty , clean 3gr jar ( i used rubbing alcohol to desinfect it first)
- Scoop (0.15 cc) not pictured above
How to make it :
Add 1 ml of vaseline into your mini dish + 1 scoop pigment and 1 scoop primer
Add a second scoop of pigment or more if desired
(i have used 3 scoops for this 1 ml and i could use more to intensify the color , but i didn't want to waste to much pigment in this experiment)
This is how it looks like after mixing . I used the toothpic to scrape it off the spoon
Finished product with swatch
Thoughts : It's not the perfect texture to use as an eyeliner , absolutely not !! It doen't dry , it smudges , not good for an eyeliner.
But as a baseproduct for your eyeshadow it works pretty good . you still need to an eyeprimer before use , even there is primer in the product . It stays greasy , as what i expected from Vaseline . But it works well as a sticky base underneath a powder eyeshadow. Use it in a thin layer or it will crease , even with your primer underneath !!!!
And this is a recipe i found and i absolutely want to try that too , but first i need to find the ingredients for it :D
Cream Eye Shadow
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 teaspoons of jojoba oil (plus 5 drops jojoba oil to mix with mica powder)
- 1 teaspoon of beeswax
- 1 teaspoon of carnauba wax
- 1/2 teaspoon magnesium stearate
- 3/4 teaspoon of baby powder
- 2 teaspoons mica powder
Directions:
Place waxes in a double boiler and heat gently until both ingredients are melted. Remove from heat and place wax into a bowl. This will be the wax base for your eye shadow. Combine the magnesium stearate, baby powder and mica powder in a bowl. Add the colored powdered eye shadow to the bowl containing the melted waxes. Quickly and carefully mix the colored powder eye shadow, stirring constantly. If the mixture starts to set, re-melt it by placing it back into the double boiler. When fully blended together, pour mixture into a sterilized container. Allow mixture to sit for at least three hours before using. Apply homemade eye shadow with an applicator, cotton swab or a clean fingertip.
